Monkey Puzzle tree

This is one of the worlds oldest livimg fossels. It is native to the mountainous regions of Chile and Argentina .It is the Chilean national trees and lives in the lower mountainous parts in some ski aereas where it is insuklated by snow. It is said to be the hardiest of it's species taking -20C (read centigrade) temps . But I wouldn't bet a plug nickle on that . I would say the limits of in ground planting are the warmer parts of zone 7 and said costal area zone . I would say keep this containerized, unless you live in the far south or those coastal zone 7 areas or like living dangerously . It is super duper cool and they do currently live in Japan as well as many other places around the world. This is a VERY slow grower so don't expect the stated maximum heights in your lifetime or possibly you kids.
If you watch the original "The Ghost and Mrs Muir .. The ghost a sea farin' captain planted one from seed in the front yard of his cottage ... it was huge...and before Mrs muir became acquainted with him and liked him...she had found the tree so odd and  "hideous" she had it cut down. He was furious about it and really busted her chops over it  ( I would have too)... there were very slight glimpses of the tree in the beginning of the 1957 "non classic"
